PANO – 1,000 volunteers nationwide took part in a ceremony to launch the Trans-Vietnam walk program on July 2nd.
The Program, “Trans–Vietnam Journey – From Lotus Village to Dragon House Wharf”, was sponsored by Central and local agencies and social organisations, such as the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange, and so on.
Accordingly, the volunteers departed from Vinh City in Nghe An Province and will arrive at the Dragon House Wharf in Ho Chi Minh City. The 1,560 km journey will go through 16 provinces along National Road 1A of Vietnam.
The annual social activity, first launched in 2008, aims to call upon the whole community to share problems and difficulties, help needy people, protect the environment, and to light up dreams to create a better life for Vietnamese people, especially for AO victims and needy children with good academic records, as well as provide necessary living skills for Vietnamese youngsters.
Volunteers will also take part in social activities in localities that they go through, such as youth camp festivals, marches to promote traffic safety, and exchanges with local people, and presentation of gifts to needy people.
