The information was released by the
Vietnam Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department concerning the Taiwanese-flag No.6 Sheng Fu fishing vessel. The ship ran into an accident when it was
approaching the Nan Ya port in New Taipei city, Taiwan (China), on December 8.
The department said at the time of
the accident, ten people were on board the vessel, including five Vietnamese
nationals. Nine people have been rescued on the day, with the remaining one,
who is Vietnamese, still unaccounted for. Of the four rescued Vietnamese
workers, one was severely injured and is hospitalized.
Taiwanese search and rescue units
are working to find the missing person but facing difficulties due to dreadful
weather. Investigation is underway to figure out reasons behind the incident.
The department noted that the
Vietnamese economics and culture office in Taipei will continue collaborating with the
Taiwanese side to search for the missing man and provide necessary citizen
protection measures to ensure the Vietnamese workers enjoy their legitimate
rights and benefits.
