At the event

Particularly, both sides have sent their forces and vehicles to key maritime areas, especially in the Vietnam-Malaysia-Thailand border waters. They have also established a joint command post comprising the coast guard, navy, and border guard forces; and strictly maintained duty regulations; closely coordinated with local authorities to quickly address cases of IUU fishing. Additionally, both sides have maintained continuous monitoring and supervision of the task implementation of enforcement forces through the VSAT system at the command post.

Over the past time, the two sides have disseminated information related to IUU fishing prevention to nearly 20,000 Vietnamese fishing vessels. In particular, coast guard troops and staff of the Department of Fisheries Surveillance have distributed over 72,000 leaflets, nearly 28,000 legal handbooks on IUU; provided over 15,000 national flags for fishermen; exchanged 670 messages via phone with relevant coordinating forces regarding IUU fishing.

A view of the meeting

At the conference, the two sides agreed to continue thoroughly grasping and strictly implementing the directives, resolutions, and plans from higher levels, and comprehensively take measures to combat IUU fishing. In the coming time, they will increase patrols and inspections; closely monitor fishing vessels that lose their Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) signal; and continue to work closely with coordinating forces and local authorities in carrying out the mission.

On this occasion, the Department of Fisheries Surveillance visited a model of commanding, monitoring, collecting, managing, and sharing data and handling situations at the command post of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command.
