Troubled trawler saved off-shore Kien Giang province
PANO – The naval and border guard forces successfully rescued a troubled trawler on August 24.

According to Colonel Le Chi Quoc, Deputy Commander of Brigade 127, Naval Region 5 at 16:00 on August 24, troops from Ship 921, Flotilla 511, Brigade 127 and a working team from the Border Station of the An Thoi International Border Gate under the Kien Giang provincial Border Guard Command extinguished a fire on trawler, numbered KG94219TS, and brought a severely burnt fisherman ashore.
Earlier, at 9:50, the trawler suddenly caught fire while fishing about 29 nautical miles southwest of Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang province. 36-year-old fisherman Tran Van Du from An Bien town, Kien Giang province suffered from severe burns.
At 11:50 the captain of the trawler sent a mayday signal to relevant forces for rescue.
Receiving the information, Brigade 127 sent Ship 921 to the scene and extinguished the fire. At the same time, the Border Station of An Thoi International Border Gate also sent a team to the scene to take the distressed fisherman ashore.
After over four hours, the fire was put under control, and the severely burnt fisherman was successfully rescued.
Trawler KG94219TS with 13 crewmembers, captained by Ngo Hoang Tam from An Minh, Kien Giang, was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
