Firm fulcrum for fishermen in Southwestern waters
PANO - In the final lunar months of the year, the Southwestern waters frequently experience tough waves and strong winds, posing numerous safety risks. However, local fishermen still reach out to the sea, thanks to the support of the Vietnam’s People Navy.
At a fishing wharf in Ca Mau, fisherman Huynh Van Kha from Vinh Phuoc commune was busy preparing for a new fishing trip. Despite the harsh weather conditions, thanks to regular dissemination work by naval troops, he and his crew members have significantly changed their awareness: they always thoroughly check communication equipment and life jackets, and strictly comply with weather warnings. “It is better to lose a catch than to face an accident,” Kha shared about his readiness to turn the ship around upon receiving strong wind warnings from the naval forces.

Brigade 175 (Naval Region 5) disseminates laws and safety measures to fishermen. |
The presence of naval troops is not limited to remote warnings but also addresses arising issues. A typical example is the rescue of fishing trawler TV6169, which sank in the waters of Phu Quoc. Amidst fierce waves and winds, a ship from Brigade 175 promptly approached and rescued the crew members from danger.
Commander Nguyen Trung Thong, Political Chief of Brigade 175, emphasized that during the rough sea season, fishermen’s activeness in providing timely information helps the unit shorten approach time and improve the efficiency of search and rescue operations.
To ensure absolute safety for fishermen, Brigade 175 strictly ensures combat readiness, and regularly practices incident handling plans under bad weather conditions. Captain Bui Duc Dong, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Brigade 175, affirmed that support for fishermen is implemented actively, not waiting until an incident occurs. The preparation of personnel and vehicles helps the brigade be ready to fulfill assigned tasks while being a firm fulcrum for fishermen at sea.
Amidst the rough open sea, the responsible support of naval soldiers has strengthened trust, helping fishermen firmly cling to the sea, thereby contributing to protecting the sacred sovereignty of the national sea and islands.
