The request was made by Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army at a scientific seminar, themed “Army with the mission of protecting environment of seas and islands”, on January 4 in Hanoi.

During the event, representatives from military and civilian agencies clearly highlighted the significance of Vietnam’s seas and islands and the important role of military units in carrying out environmental protection mission. They pointed out current environmental issues in Vietnam and contributed military units’ and agencies’ experiences and solutions to environmental issues. 

General Nghia also asked military units’ leaders and scientists to apply feasible solutions contributed at the seminar to improve Vietnam’s sea and island environment. Meanwhile, GDP’s agencies were requested to promote their staff role and put forward dissemination and education plans to raise troops’ and people’s awareness of seas and islands in the coming time.

At the event, the GDP also awarded more than 60 outstanding groups and individuals of poster design contest on environmental protection which received 15,000 entries of both military and civilian participants.
