Defense Minister works in Military Region 1 and Thai Nguyen province
PANO – General Ngo Xuan Lich, member of the Politburo, Deputy-Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense paid a working visit to the Military Region 1 Command on November 30.
The Defense Minister was accompanied by Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief-of-the-General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy-Defense Minister and Major General Le Hien Van, Deputy-Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army.
After listening to the outcomes of the leadership of the region’s Party Committee and Command in implementing the region’s defense and military tasks over the past time, General Lich highly valued their efforts in successfully promoting quality of training and combat readiness as well as in building up strong Party organizations and comprehensively strong units at all levels.

General Lich highlighted achievements in task performance in the whole army this year, and asked Military Region 1 to continue to thoroughly grasp resolutions of the Party Central Committee and the Military Central Commission on military and defense work in the coming years, pay due attention to building the whole people’s defense posture and improve the quality of military exercises on defensive areas, and closely coordinate with local Party committees and authorities in executing defense and military tasks.
Additionally, the region should further enhance internal unity, fully carry out military training for both military and militia forces, conduct Party and political work in a comprehensive and effective manner, and actively participate in disaster control and relief activities, he concluded.
On the same day, General Lich worked with leaders of Thai Nguyen province. At the meeting, the Defense Minister spoke highly of the province’s socio-economic development and military-defense work since earlier this year, while asking local authorities and people to continue to create favorable conditions for army units stationed in the province’s localities so that they can effectively complete their assigned missions.
