PANO – Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh welcomed US Principal Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Policy David Shear in Hanoi on November 18 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam.

At the reception, the host stressed that Vietnam has always attached much importance to the friendship and cooperation with the US and hoped to develop the bilateral defense ties for benefits of each country, contributing to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world at large.
The US official in return stressed that, though the US administration will be changed, their interests in the Asia Pacific region will remain unchanged.
The two senior officials held that their cooperation in overcoming post-war consequences serves as a foundation to bolster the Vietnam-US defense ties.
Both sides expressed wish to continuously and effectively expand cooperation in fields of mutual interest such as addressing the aftermath of the war, delegation exchanges, education and training, UN peacekeeping operations, and search and rescue, in the coming time.
