Vietnam keen on boosting defense ties with Bangladesh
PANO – On May 31, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief-of-the-General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy-Defense Minister hosted a reception for Bangladeshi Ambassador to Vietnam Samina Naz at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
At the reception, Ambassador Samina Naz affirmed that the Bangladeshi people have always admired the struggle for national independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people, and the important role of the Vietnam People’s Army. The Bangladeshi diplomat pointed out potentials for bilateral cooperation between the two militaries in various areas, especially in UN peacekeeping operations and disaster relief.

The guest pledged to bring her utmost efforts to contribute to the development of the Bangladesh-Vietnam relationship in general and the bilateral defense ties in particular. On this occasion, she conveyed the invitation of Lieutenant General Mahfuzur Rahman, Principal Staff Officer of the Bangladeshi Armed Forces Division, to the host to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.
For his part, General Giang stated that the Vietnamese people always remembered the sentiment and support of Bangladeshi people for the Vietnamese people during their national resistance wars in the past. The host stressed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense always welcomes Bangladeshi military officers to Vietnam to learn Vietnamese and attend training courses at the Vietnamese National Defense Academy.
He hoped that the guest would make positive contributions to the development of the bilateral relationship and the defense ties between the two countries in the time to come. General Giang asked the Bangladeshi Ambassador to convey his thanks to Lieutenant General Mahfuzur Rahman, and said his visit would be arranged by diplomatic channels.
