PANO - Vietnam and Cuba have specified their defence cooperation in the period of 2014-2016, based on their cooperation agreement signed in 2011.
This was reached at the working session between Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, and Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, and Senior Lieutenant General Alvaro Lopez Miera, First Deputy-Minister and Chief-of-the-General-Staff of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, on March 27th in the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Cuba.
General Vinh praised achievements by the Cuban people and armed forces in the national construction and protection cause. He conveyed the invitation of General Phung Quang Thanh, Vietnamese Minister of National Defence, to Minister Cintra Frias to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time. The Cuban general accepted the invitation with pleasure.
The Cuban generals hailed the visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Cuba and affirmed that Cuba would continue to promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, including in national defence, contributing to further development of the traditional friendship between the two nations and armies.
On this occasion, General Vinh visited some units of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.
