Vietnam and the US further cooperate in overcoming post-war consequences

PANO - Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh on July 7th received the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Thomas W. Ross, Jr on his working visit to Vietnam at the Ministry’s headquarters.
At the reception, the Vietnamese official spoke highly of the two countries’ development of the comprehensive partnership, especially after the recent visit to Vietnam of US President B. Obama.

He believed that the two sides would step up their cooperation in surmounting the aftermath of war, especially in addressing dioxins, clearing post-war bombs, mines and other unexploded ordnances and effectively implement the program on searching remains of US servicemen missing in action during the war in Vietnam.
On his part, the guest thanked the host for the reception and confirmed that the US would continue boosting its defence ties with Vietnam in fields of the overcoming post-war consequences, peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, search and rescue in natural disasters.
The guest also expressed his belief that Vietnam and the US’s bilateral cooperation would be more fruitful in contribution to enhancing peace and cooperation in the region and the rest of the world.
