Defense cooperation helps boost Vietnam-Philippines strategic partnership
PANO – The Vietnam-Philippines defense cooperation over the past time has made great contributions to deepening the bilateral strategic partnership, said Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich during his reception for the Philippino Deputy Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Cardozo Luna on August 9 in Hanoi.
At the reception, General Lich underscored that the Vietnam-Philippines Defense Policy Dialogue contributes to promoting solidarity and mutual understanding between the two defense ministries via various activities, such as delegation exchanges, maritime law enforcement, education and training over the past time.

For his part, Lieutenant General Cardozo Luna thanked General Lich for his reception and informed the Vietnamese General of the results of the Defense Policy Dialogue held earlier between the two sides. He expressed his hope that the implementation of agreed contents would foster the bilateral defense cooperation.
* Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Lieutenant General Cardozo Luna co-chaired the third Vietnam-Philippines Defense Policy Dialogue.

During the program, the two sides discussed issues of mutual concern in the region and over the world. In addition, they also approved the results of the meeting of the Vietnam-Philippines Defense Cooperation Working Group earlier in the day and underlined that their defense cooperation witnessed significant development in line with the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defense cooperation signed in 2010.
The two sides agreed to continue maintaining the Defense Policy Dialogue mechanism while enhancing other activities of delegation exchanges, search and rescue, defense industry and sharing of experience in joining UN peacekeeping operations.
