Bentiu students receive medicine cabinets from Vietnamese blue-beret doctors
PANO - In response to the Day of the African Child (June 19) themed “Ensuring that every child in Africa has access to fresh water, sanitation and hygiene,” and acting on calls from the U.N., the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and directives from the Sector Command to support communities in preventing cholera and Ebola, Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 worked with the Pakistani Engineering Company and the Mongolian Infantry Battalion to conduct a civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) activity at Sunshine Primary School in the Bentiu IDP camp.
During the event, over 500 gifts, including notebooks, pens, and school things, along with six boxes of hand sanitizer, were distributed to teachers and students to enhance hygiene conditions and prevent the spread of diseases in the school.

Medical staff from the Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 and other units instructed students on proper handwashing and personal and environmental hygiene. They also provided information on recognizing the early signs of cholera, Ebola, and other common infectious diseases. Given limited local medical resources, these preventive measures are highly effective and essential for protecting the public health.

The highlight of the program was the donation of “School medicine cabinets,” aimed to support the school in proactively providing first aid to students right in the classroom. The doctors instructed teachers to identify injuries, properly use medicines and medical supplies, and perform basic first aid before transferring patients to medical facilities.
