Speaking at the event, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Gillian Bird emphasized that the relationship between Australia and Vietnam has become stronger than ever, expressing her hope that the bilateral ties’ potential would be fully realized. She also expressed her delight at the development of the defense cooperation, which has become an important pillar of the Australia-Vietnam relations.

Admiral David Lance Johnston affirmed that the defense cooperation between Australia and Vietnam has continuously developed across various fields, notably in training, U.N. peacekeeping, and military medicine. He emphasized that Australia looks forward to further deepening its defense cooperation with Vietnam.

“Together, we have built strong foundations, and we hope these foundations will continue to develop in the coming years,” said Admiral Johnston.

For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan highlighted that the defense cooperation between Vietnam and Australia has been effectively implemented, bringing practical results in many fields, such as delegation exchanges, dialogues, consultations, education and training, U.N. peacekeeping, military medicine, and post-war relief.

Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan affirmed that in the time to come, the Vietnam People’s Army would continue to work closely with the Australian Defense Force to implement cooperative activities as agreed upon by defense leaders of both countries, further realizing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia.
