PANO – The Vietnamese Party, State, Army and people have always been grateful to the assistance of Chinese Party, State, people’s Liberation Army and people during the resistance wars for national independence and reunification of Vietnam, especially the war against French invaders.

This was affirmed by the Vietnamese Minister of National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh at the reception for a delegation of the family members of Chinese experts who directly assisted Vietnam during the anti-French resistance war and the family of Nguyen Son, the General of both Vietnam and China, at the Headquarter of the Defence Ministry on April 24th.

The Defence Minister expressed his delight to welcome the Chinese delegation at the time when Vietnam is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

He affirmed the contributions of Chinese experts to the success of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and to the war against French colonists of Vietnamese people, saying that the assistance of China, the former Soviet Union, and other socialist countries and international friends was one of factors leading to the success of Vietnam’s revolution.

General Phung Quang Thanh said that Vietnamese Party, State and Army hoped to promote the friendship and comprehensive cooperation in accordance with the framework of the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership between the two parties and states. He added that realising President Ho Chi Minh’s last teachings, Vietnam has strived to make the two countries to become reliable comrades, friends, and partners of each other.  

Addressing the event, Mrs. Xu Qiqian, the wife of Wei Guoqing, one of the Chinese experts shared touching stories about her husband and recalled her family’s visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Uncle Ho in 1960.

“I believe that the Vietnam-China Friendship will never change”, Mrs. Xu Qiqian affirmed.

Nguyen Son’s son, Major General Chen Hanfeng stressed that Chinese Party, Government and people would never forget the support of Vietnamese people.

Later in the day, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence held a banquet for the delegation.

Earlier, the delegation visited General Vo Nguyen Giap’s widow and paid respect to the General at his house at 30, Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi.
