The event saw the participation of many high-ranking leaders and representatives of countries and international organizations. Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son leading a delegation attended and delivered an online speech at the high-level segment of the session.

In his speech, the head of the Vietnamese delegation briefed the participants on Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in protecting and promoting human rights. He also affirmed Vietnam’s message when running for election to the United Nations Human Rights Council in the 2023-2025 tenure.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the importance of ensuring equal access to COVID-19 vaccines. He called on governments, pharmaceutical companies, and their partners to urgently provide support for the World Health Organization to soon achieve the goal of 70% of the world population being vaccinated.

The U.N. chief also urged countries to pay attention to ensuring rights and opportunities for all; focusing on poverty reduction, education investment; protecting the rights of women and children, and responding to climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss when issuing social policies.
