Japanese city to assist Da Nang in becoming eco-city

PANO – A Memorandum of Understanding on technical cooperation between Da Nang and Yokohama city of Japan was signed on April 9th by the two cities’ representatives.
According to the agreement, Yokohama city committed to boost cooperation with Da Nang by exchanging techniques and expertise in developing into an environment-friendly city and coordinating in implementing technical cooperation programmes, with the aim to building Da Nang into an eco-city.
Vice Mayor of Yokohama city Suzuki Takasih affirmed that “Yokohama’s cooperation will focus on developing such fields as high technology, seaport, environment and urban transportation. We believe that our practical contribution will help Da Nang to become a green, clean and beautiful eco-city, opening a new bright future for the development of the city.”
According to Da Nang’s representatives, the city has set up cooperative relations with five Japanese cities on politics, culture and economics. Especially, Japanese foreign direct investment (FDI) in Da Nang has continuously increased over the past years.
At present, 87 Japanese enterprises and representative offices in Da Nang, with total investment of over $350 million, have created stable jobs for 30,000 local labourers.
Yokohama, known as the second most populous city of Japan, is famous for high technology development, a convenient transport system, busy commercial areas and a network of large seaports.
