IBM and local authorities of Da Nang City on May 7th officially started the Roadmap to build Da Nang into a “smart city”.
Da Nang, alongside 32 other cities around the world and the only Vietnamese city, has been chosen by IBM to receive funds from the giant group in its sponsored Programme “IBM Smarter Cities Challenge”.
The Programme started in 2011 and lasts 3 years. During this time, IBM will earmark some US$ 50 million for 100 selected cities in the world.
“IBM alongside local authorities and involved agencies will discuss the City’s situation and propose measures to improve several areas in the city such as transportation, water quality and food safety and hygiene, in which IBM have many experiences in other countries,” said the Director of the Provincial Information and Communication, Pham Kim Son.
He also highly valued the technical and financial supports from IBM and affirmed that the Programme will bring good opportunities for the City to become a smart city in the future.
Meanwhile, Director of IBM Vietnam, Vo Tan Long, said that Da Nang had met the criteria set by IBM to receive supports from the Programme.
“Da Nang has led Vietnamese cities in ICT development and application over the past three years and is striving to become an environmental city by 2020,” he said.
