PANO – Vietnam’s military-run telecom group Viettel is popularizing Dong Son Bronze Drum in Spain by combining its logos with images of the drum.
This illustrates Viettel’s theme “Mobile in Emerging Countries”, making a strong impression on the international participants at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain, which ends tomorrow.
Operating in 10 countries, Viettel is able to share its experience in introducing telecommunications and information technology to life, and changing people’s living standards.
Dong Son Bronze Drums (also called Heger Type I drums) are drums fabricated by the Dong Son Culture dating back to 1000BC in the Red River Delta of northern Vietnam. They are one of the culture's finest examples of metal work.
The drums, Dong Son Culture’s signature artifacts and one of the country’s cultural icons, are adorned with a sun in the center and engraved with other rich decorative patterns. The body of the items is also engraved with images reflecting ancient Vietnamese people’s lifestyle, such as dancing, playing musical instruments and boarding ships.
The drums were initially created as musical instruments, but were later used as a means of trade or currency and were also considered objects of worship.
