Vietnamese artist named Romanian Honorary Consul in HCM City
Vietnamese artist Tran Thi Thanh Nhan, better known as Ly Nha Ky, was named the Honorary Consul of Romania in Ho Chi Minh City at a ceremony held in the city on June 26.
Nhan will serve a four-year term.
On the occasion, the Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Malescanu sent congratulatory messages to the new Romanian Honorary Consul in HCM City.
He stressed that the ceremony was held as Vietnam and Romania want to promote bilateral cooperation based on their traditional friendship and mutual interests, along with support of Vietnamese students who studied in Romania.

The Romanian diplomat also affirmed his country’s commitment to boosting the two nations’ political, economic and cultural relations, adding that the appointment shows the country’s wish to consolidate bilateral ties, especially in trade.
For her part, Nhan vowed to spare no efforts to deepen relations between Vietnam and Romania as well as Romania and HCM City in particular.
Establishing bilateral diplomatic ties on February 3, 1950, Vietnam and Romania have facilitated regular high-level visits and worked together at global forums and organizations.
Bilateral trade revenue hit USD 150 million in 2014, approximately two thirds of which was from Vietnamese exports. The revenue increased to USD 170 million in 2015, with Vietnam exporting goods worth about USD 102 million to Romania.
More than 4,000 Vietnamese engineers and experts in various fields have received training in Romania.
