In 2019, the two sides highly appreciated the maintenance of regular high-level exchanges, effective implementation of cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties, ministries, agencies, and localities of the two countries, as well as the encouraging development in trade, investment, and tourism cooperation.

They highlighted the stable mainland border situation and affirmed that the two sides have maintained negotiation and exchange mechanisms on maritime issues. These efforts brought benefits to the people of each country and laid a firm foundation for promoting cooperation in the coming time.
Trung spoke highly of China’s efforts in creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods, most recently dairy products, to enter the Chinese market. He suggested that both sides develop balanced trade, deal with the problems that are associated with many of the Chinese projects in Vietnam, and facilitate custom clearance at border gates.
Regarding bilateral cooperation for the next year, the two sides agreed to accelerate high-level visits and meetings and coordinate in hosting activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic ties and organizing the 12th meeting of the Steering Committee for Vietnam – China Bilateral Cooperation.
Also, they will effectively carry out cooperation mechanisms, promote economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation, raise the effectiveness of available cooperation fields, and promote exchange between localities of the two countries, as well as review the 20-year Vietnam – China mainland border treaty. The two sides agreed to hold people-to-people exchanges and activities to strengthen mutual trust and understanding.
In a frank environment, the two sides exchanged issues at sea and agreed to exercise common perceptions reached by senior leaders and properly control and settle differences, contributing to maintaining peaceful and stable environment in the South China Sea (East Sea).
The Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister affirmed Vietnam’s stance on maritime issues, which are in line with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
