The talk took place in the context that the bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and the U.S. surpassed USD 100 billion in 2021. Currently, the U.S. has become the largest export market of Vietnam while Vietnam becoming the ninth largest trading partner of the U.S.
During the talk, the U.S CBP highly valued the efforts of the GDVC in investigating, detecting and processing information to prevent illegal transshipment to the U.S.
These efforts have helped the U.S. make practical and objective assessment of the currency devaluation in Vietnam and help Vietnam avoid trade sanctions from the U.S. side. To effectively implement their cooperation content, the two sides agreed to designate a direct point of contact for the two agencies, and establish a connection channel via the regional U.S. CBP attaché and the U.S. CBP deputy attaché to Vietnam to exchange information regularly, quickly and effectively.
At the talk, GDVC Director-General and Commissioner for U.S. CBP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhancing mutual cooperation between the two agencies.
During their stay in the U.S., the Vietnamese delegation had working sessions with the National Targeting Center and the Chamber of Commerce under the U.S. CBP to learn more experience in areas such as risk management or initiatives of trade enforcement.
The delegation also paid fact-finding trips to the Boston Logan International Airport and the Boston Harbor.
The visit marks a new step in the cooperation between the GDVC and the U.S. CBP, showing strong committment of the GDVC to effectively preventing violations and create favorable conditions for legal trade between the two sides, contributing to reinforcing the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the U.S.
