Like many Asian countries, Vietnam is undergoing rapid urbanization and by 2017, about 40% of the 90 million Vietnamese people lived in urban areas and this figure is predicted to increase to 50% by 2025. The strategy on public transport development in Vietnam until 2020, with a vision to 2030, aims to change people’s travelling habits and promote the use of public transport means, controlling private means of transport and improving the quality of urban traffic systems.

In addition, 20% of buses and taxis will run LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), compressed natural gas or solar energy by 2020. However, to achieve these targets, Vietnam should plan carefully and learn successful experiences from other countries.

At the discussion, representatives of many Swedish companies such as ABB, Erisson, Volvo Buses, Axis Communications, Volvo Cars and Roxtec shared their experiences with Vietnamese partners in approaches to increase the number of public transport commuters, ensure traffic safety and apply cutting-edge technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and eMobility.
