For his part, FM Son expressed his delight at the rapid development of the bilateral relations in all spheres over the past time. He emphasized that Vietnam always attaches much importance to its relations with the RoK, considering the country one of its leading partners and wishing to boost its ties with the country.

Speaking highly of Vietnam’s all-out efforts to control COVID-19, FM Chung believed that Vietnam will achieve all targets set out in its 10-year socio-economic development strategy for the 2021-2030 period.

The Korean diplomat also confirmed that Vietnam is a key partner in the country’s New Southern Policy.

At the event, the two sides agreed to maintain all-level exchanges, especially high-level ones, through such flexible forms as phone talks and virtual meetings.

They reached a consensus on stepping up close cooperation between the two foreign ministries, including in carrying out activities to mark the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2022, working to achieve a goal of USD 100 billion of two-way trade, strengthening the relations between the two countries’ localities and businesses, and coordination in citizen protection.

Both sides also agreed to support and work closely with each other within the regional and international cooperation frameworks such as the United Nations and ASEAN - RoK.

They exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea (internationally South China Sea) and Korean Peninsula issues.

Regarding the Myanmar situation, both sides reached an agreement on coordinating closely at regional and international forums to call on relevant parties to exercise restraint, avoid the use of violence and conduct peaceful dialogue.
