Delegates at the conference

The event was within the framework of the cooperation agreement with VASS, the RoK’s National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences as signatories. It was also among activities in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam - RoK’s diplomatic relations.

At the conference, participants heard that Vietnam and the RoK established their diplomatic ties in 1992. Since then, both countries have exerted all-out efforts to upgrade their relations to a “comprehensive cooperation partnership in the 21st century” in 2001, “strategic cooperative partnership” in 2009, and would-be “comprehensive strategic partnership” which has been agreed and supported by senior leaders of the two nations.

Over the past three decades, the relationship between Vietnam and the RoK has constantly developed in a strong and rapid manner, reaping great achievements in different fields.

Notably, after the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the two countries accelerated cooperation in economy. The two-way trade value in the first year after the diplomatic relations were set up reached only USD 500 million and increased to USD 78 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach USD 100 billion in 2023. Attentively, the RoK is Vietnam's third largest trading partner, and Vietnam has become the RoK's fourth largest trading partner.

In addition, exchange activities in culture, tourism, education and training, sports, and health between the two countries have taken place regularly and effectively, contributing to the comprehensive, increasingly-intensive, and effective development of Vietnam - RoK relations.

An overview of the event

The conference was a good chance to review achievements gained by the two countries over the past three decades, particularly their cooperation in cultural, and historical research, education and settlement of social issues, such as marriage migration.

Through exchange and discussion of scientists, initiatives to further promote the relationship between Vietnam and the RoK in culture, history, education and solutions to social problems arising in the current bilateral relations were expected to be worked out.
