Major General Pham Van Huan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the PAN, together with representatives from PAN’s affiliated departments and panels, hosted a reception.
On behalf of the PAN’s staff, General Huan expressed delight at receiving the APES’s delegation and wished them a successful and efficient visit while in Vietnam. He also briefed the foreign journalists on the newspaper’s history of construction and development over the past 67 years.
The PAN is one of the two biggest printed newspapers of the Vietnam revolutionary press. It has been tasked with covering the national construction and defense campaigns. The newspaper’s publications have been read broadly by both military and civilian readers and, thanks to the English online editions, by an international audience also.
During the meeting, General Huan introduced PAN’s organization and functions, and said that the newspaper is planning to build the newspaper as a multimedia agency while further expanding its coverage, especially on international issues.
For his part, journalist Jean Musy, head of the delegation, briefed participants on the APES - a long-standing press association in Europe with 120 reporters.
He also underscored that the APES delegates have paid attention to Vietnam, adding that this visit was a chance for them to learn more about the country, people and Vietnamese newspaper publishing including the PAN.
Musy thanked PAN for the warm and friendly welcome ceremony and wished the newspaper would further develop in the future.
