PANO - Fidel Castro, the greatest leader of the Republic of Cuba, passed away on November 25 at his house at the age of 90. His death has left huge loss for not only Cuban citizens but also peace-lovers around the world.

> Cuban revolutionary icon Fidel Castro passes away

Fidel used to be the supreme Cuban commander-in-chief, who led the Cuban revolutionary movement to success, overthrowing Dictator Fulgencio Batista and opening the age of independence and freedom for the Cuban people. The Cuban Revolution's victory at that time became a brilliant demonstration, which encouraged revolutionary movements for national liberation and independence in Latin American countries and other nations across the world.

During his revolutionary career, Fidel was seen as a great friend of the Vietnamese people. His immortal words "For Vietnam, we are willing to shed our own blood" have become a symbol for the unity and close brotherhood between Vietnam and Cuba. He was also the only foreign leader who paid a visit to liberated zones in the Vietnamese central province of Quang Tri in September 1973, during the fiercest days of the Vietnamese resistance war against American invaders.

After that, President Fidel Castro also officially visited Vietnam twice in December 1995 and February 2003. Meanwhile, many Vietnamese Party and State senior leaders met him during their visits to the Republic of Cuba.

The People's Army Newspaper would like to present some images retracing Cuban President's special affection for the Vietnam, Vietnamese people, and the Vietnam People's Army.
