The number of French tourists to Vietnam is expected to increase sharply from April 21 to June 19 and from August 21 to October 20 thanks to a 25-percentairfare discountfor return flights offered by Vietnam Airlines.

The airlines’ spokesperson Trinh Ngoc Thanh said on February 9 that the special discount programme is being carried out by Vietnam Airlines in coordination with a number of travel agents in France with the aim of luring more French tourists to Vietnam.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently launched a large-scale promotion campaign entitled “Impressive Vietnam,” to attract more foreign visitors to the country in 2009.

At present, the promotion programme has been introduced widely on popular French websites, such as Le Monde, Courrier International, Yahoo Voyage, Telerama and the website of Vietnam Airlines in France.

On the first day of launching, the airlines’ representative office in Paris received telephone calls from many passengers. More than 2,000 hits were counted on Vietnam Airlines’ website at http://www.vietnamairlines.fr/offre.htm, four times higher than previously.
