Vietnam Airlines grows by 20% in first two months of 2017
PANO – On February 26, Vietnam Airlines announced that in the first two months of 2017 the carrier and its member companies, including Jetstar Pacific Airlines and Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), managed to keep 88 percent of their flights punctual, an increase of nearly 10 percent year on year. This is an encouraging figure in the context of overloaded aviation infrastructure, particularly at Tan Son Nhat Airport.
The total number of passengers transported by the carrier grew by 20 percent in the first two months, but lower than the record growth of 34 percent in the same period of 2016. In that context, Vietnam Airlines boosted operation of major domestic routes from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang with the market share accounting for 64-67 percent while maintaining its whole domestic market share at 61 percent.
The carrier continues to exploit its international market with a passenger increase of 14 percent. With a fleet of wide-body planes, namely B787, A350, A330 and B777, in operation, during the first two months of the year, the carrier accounted for 90 percent of the domestic cargo transport market share and expanded Vietnam’s agricultural exports to the European and Japanese markets.
