Exports of Vietnamese fresh rambutan fruit to the US market see a sharp rise, according to Doctor Nguyen Huu Dat, Director of the Center for Post-Imported Vegetation Inspection in Ho Chi Minh City, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
He said that Vietnamese exporters had registered to export 20 containers of rambutan by air to the US during the past week.
Over the past one month, since Vietnamese rambutan was allowed to enter the market, as many as 39 containers of the fruit had been exported by air, he added.
Exporters said that some US rambutan importers who had earlier imported the fruit from Mexico started to buy it from Vietnamese exporters.
Vietnamese rambutan appears to be cheaper and tastes better, some US customers said.
