PV Gas (PetroVietnam Gas Corporation) is considering the feasibility of a large project to import gas, said the General Director of the company as he spoke to reporters on February 28th.
Vietnam is facing a shortage of gas supplies so the company is accelerating the import project to meet the demand of the domestic market, he added.
“Vietnam lacks some 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Therefore, the gas import project is significant and we hope that it may satisfy the needs for gas of electricity, fertilizer production and people’s consumption,” the Director said.
The company will complete the feasibility of the project and related documents by May and then submit it to the Prime Minister.
The project, which costs about US$ 2 billion, is mainly aimed to build two deep-water seaports and storage sites in Central Vietnam.
Under the project, gas will be mainly imported from Australia and the Middle East.
