A campaign to promote the Vietnamese tourist destinations of Hanoi and Halong Bay will be launched by Korean Air in the Republic of Korea, said Chief Representative of Korean Air in Vietnam Lee Sang Kun.

According to Lee, the campaign will take place in October and hopes to attract even more South Koreans to visit Vietnam. At the same time the airline will change its passenger planes from Boeing 737-900s (180 seats) to Airbus 330-300s (296 seats) in order to meet the potential demand.

The carrier operated 12 chartered flights from Seoul to Danang between June and August this year, but they were not very profitable as tourist products in Vietnam’s Central Region did not suit South Korean tourists.

However, the carrier will continue to hold similar fights in winter before it officially opens a Seoul-Danang route within the next few yeas, after the sea resort and other large tourist projects in the city are finished.

After the 2004-2006 tourist “bubble”, the number of South Korean tourists went down in the first 8 months of this year by 7 per cent against the same time last year, according to the General Department of Tourism.
