The North Power Corporation under the Electrics of Vietnam (EVN NPC) held a ceremony on May 26th in Tan Xuan Commune, Moc Chau District, Son La Province to break ground a large power supply project in the province.

The project, which costs VND557.821 billion, mobilised from the State Budget (85 per cent) and the EVN (the remainder), is managed and directly implemented by EVN NPC is to erect low- and medium- voltage transmission substations and electric line networks in 106 communes of the province and to connect them to the national power grid by 2015.

After the project has been finished, as many as 30,000 local households, mainly of ethnic minority groups, in remote and mountainous areas of the province will benefit from it, according to estimates.

Local officials hope that the power connection will help boost local socio-economic development, improve people’s cultural life and reduce poverty as well as speed up the building of the new countryside model in the province’s remote places, home to ethnic minority people.
