A ceremony was launched on December 11 by Delta Air Lines, a US flier to officially mark its presence in Vietnam, which can be regarded as an important milestone in an attempt to expand its air routes between the US and Asia in general and Southeast Asia in particular.
The air carrier will open its representative offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and has given general agent status to EastSea Travel and Air Service, a local company.
In coordination with its partners within the Skyteam alliance, which includes Korean Air, Air France-KLM and China Airlines, the carrier can provide 20 direct flight routes from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to the US, Canada, Mexico and southern American countries.
Delta Air Lines is a renowned carrier in the US market which has established air routes throughout US air transportation market.
At this point, it has 440 planes in service and carries over 100 million passengers a year. With its partners, the flier exploits 841 international air routes to 162 countries across the world.
It is also planning to enter the Chinese market in March 2008 with a direct route between Shanghai and Atlanta.
