Can Tho ready for APEC 2017
PANO – Leadership of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho held a meeting on July 18 with the APEC 2017 National Secretariat led by its head, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, on the preparations for APEC events held from August 21 – 25 in the city.
According to Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Dao Anh Dung, the food security week and the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture and adaptation to climate change held in Can Tho within the framework of APEC Year 2017 provide an opportunity for the city to promote trade and local tourism. For five days, 15 meetings, seminars and conferences, including a ministerial-level meeting, held in Can Tho, will bring together leaders of global economies and over 500 other delegates.

To ensure security for the meetings, the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been appointed the coordinator for connecting relevant agencies in organizing the events in the locality, with focus laid on communications, security, food hygiene and safety, trade and tourism promotion and introduction of technologies in the farming sector.
Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son hailed the preparations of the city and further informed that the four cooperation priorities of the APEC 2017’s agenda are promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth; strengthening regional economic connectivity intensively and extensively; improving competitiveness and innovation of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); and enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture, and climate change combat. The priority “improving competitiveness and innovation of SMEs” is an initiative of Vietnam.
He stressed that one of the factors that brings success to the events is the participation of businesses. Therefore, Can Tho should pay special attention to communications in order to raise awareness of the business circle of the events, encouraging them to take the chance to promote their businesses and trade.
