Vietnam women’s futsal team advance to 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship semifinals
PANO – The 1-1 draw between Australia and the Philippines officially secured a semifinal berth for the Vietnam women's national futsal team at the 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship.
After earning two victories and collecting six points in Group B, Vietnam still had to await the outcome of the remaining group-stage match between Australia and the Philippines to determine their fate. The draw between the two sides confirmed Vietnam’s progression to the knockout stage as group runners-up.

Heading into their decisive fixture, the Philippines needed to defeat Australia by at least a two-goal margin to keep their hope alive. However, Australia capitalized on their opportunity to open the scoring in the 40th minute. Just seconds later, the Philippines equalized, and the 1-1 scoreline held until the final whistle.
Australia topped Group B with seven points, while Vietnam finished second with six points. Both teams advanced to the semifinals. The Philippines placed third with four points, and Myanmar finished bottom without a point.
Regarding Vietnam’s earlier 5-2 comeback victory over Myanmar in the final group match, head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang praised his players’ determination and resilience. He acknowledged the challenges they faced, particularly after conceding in the first half, and commended the squad for maintaining focus and overcoming adversity. The coach expressed satisfaction with his team’s effort and fighting spirit.
The semifinals of the 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship are scheduled for February 28. Vietnam will face the winner of Group A, to be determined following the final round of matches.
