Woodblocks of Bo Da Pagoda recognized as national treasure
PANO - On March 31 (February 15th in Lunar Calendar), the Viet Yen District People’s Committee held a ceremony to receive the Prime Minister’s decision recognizing the woodblocks of Bo Da Pagoda as a national treasure and to launch the Bo Da Pagoda Traditional Festival in 2018.
Bo Da Pagoda in Tien Son commune, Viet Yen district (Bac Giang), is home to nearly 2,000 undamaged woodblocks inscribed in Han, Nom and Sanskrit scripts.
The woodblocks were recognized as a national treasure for not only holding natural, historical, artistic and architectural values, but also preserving the Buddhist thoughts of the most ancient Zen sect in Vietnam, the Lam Te Thien (Zen) Lineage.
