In terms of culture, the San Diu people still preserve their diverse traditional features including a lot of types of folk singing which embrace cultural values and express underlying philosophies of faith, morality and humanity.
Also, they promote different types of folk dances performed during religious rituals, festivals and celebrations. Some of their folk musical instruments are the horn, gong, drum, panpipe, monochord, to name but a few.
A project of “Preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of the San Diu people in Tam Dao district” is underway divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 lasting from 2022 to 2025 focuses on building a San Diu ethnic cultural model village in Tan Phu, Dao Tru commune within an area of about 48ha. In addition, policies will be developed to support and create favorable conditions for 30 - 50 households to do homestay services. Phase 2, from 2026 to 2030, continues to develop the San Diu ethnic cultural model village in Tan Phu village, train and foster 200 - 300 employees on community-based tourism and tourism development. By 2025, it is expected to provide jobs for 1,300 workers, 300 of whom work at the San Diu ethnic cultural model village in Tan Phu.
Chairman of Vinh Phuc People’s Committee Le Duy Thanh has highly appreciated the determination of Tam Dao district and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in preserving and promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities. He also acknowledges the project’s profound cultural and social significance as well as its extensive impact on the life of the San Diu ethnic group.
It is necessary for the local authorities to further study the project’s contents. The provincial people’s committee should establish a steering committee and working group, which coordinate localities and relevant departments to complete the project contents and implement the project as soon as possible.
