Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong said the event aimed to introduce Greek and international audiences to the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, whom UNESCO honoured as a national liberation hero and an outstanding man of culture. President Ho Chi Minh is also a symbol of the struggle for national independence whose ideals inspired movements for independence, justice and peace around the world.

Koutsoumpas praised President Ho Chi Minh as an icon of the global revolutionary movement and an internationally respected cultural celebrity. He said the event offered the Greek public a valuable opportunity to learn more about Vietnam's history and culture while strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries.

A key highlight was the exhibition, "From Young Patriot Nguyen Tat Thanh to Ho Chi Minh to National Liberation Icon," featuring photographs and documents tracing the Vietnamese leader's revolutionary journey.

The programme also showcased archival materials on Vietnam - Greece relations, wartime posters from the collection of Greece's first ambassador to Vietnam, Platon Alexis Hadjimichalis, and the launch of a Greek-language anthology of President Ho Chi Minh's selected works from 1920-1969.

In addition, visitors had the opportunity to experience Vietnamese culture through musical performances featuring traditional Vietnamese instruments, arranged and performed by artists from the Vietnam Cultural Centre in France, as well as a selection of special Vietnamese dishes prepared by the Embassy of Vietnam in Greece and Vietnamese restaurants in Athens.

Vietnam Day in Greece 2026 was a meaningful event that helped strengthen people-to-people exchanges, promote the image of Vietnam, its culture and people, and further reinforce the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Greece.
