Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said the festival is one of the important events celebrating the 2014 Central Highlands-Da Lat National Tourism Year, with the main purpose of preserving and promoting traditional musical instruments, especially those of the region’s ethnic groups.

It also offers a chance for the resort city, built by the French in the late 19th century, to introduce its image to both domestic and foreign tourists.

The festival is being held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Musicians’ Association and the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists.
