In the old days, buffaloes were the most valuable assets of farmer families in Vietnam. Most hard farm work like ploughing, raking, and transporting rice was assumed by buffaloes.
The buffalo appears in proverbs, folk-songs and chants of all ethnic groups in Vietnam. The buffalo is the symbol of health, industriousness, and it has been the friend of farmers for thousands of years.
Today, buffaloes are being replaced by plough machines so the image of buffaloes boys perching themselves on a buffalo’s back is disappearing, but in the soul of Vietnamese, buffalos, fields, and rice are still poetic.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, lively and funny buffaloes made of various materials, featured in different shapes are standing on streets like Nguyen Van Linh, 3/2, Tran Hung Dao Stresses and parks like Tao Dan and Truong Dinh.
