Van Phuc silk weaving recognized as national intangible cultural heritage

The week is in the framework of the ongoing Vietnam Craft Villages Festival 2023 and Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023, jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee.

Themed “Van Phuc, colors of integration,” the eight-day event features a series of activities, including a procession ceremony to honor the craft village’s ancestors, an exhibition to introduce Hanoi’s handicraft products, a show of “ao dai” (traditional long dress) made from local silk, an art performance program, and a calligraphy contest.

During the event, craft villages will also introduce and sell their products. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy experience tours to historical and cultural relic sites.

On the occasion, the People’s Committee of Van Phuc ward received a certificate recognizing Van Phuc silk weaving as national intangible cultural heritage.

An artistic performance at the event

According to Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ha Dong district Pham Van Chien, the cultural week is an opportunity for the locality to introduce the unique cultural values of Van Phuc traditional silk village to domestic and foreign visitors, thus promoting its potential and strengths in the fields of creative design and cultural industry.
