Artists from Thanh Hoa's Cultural Heritage Branch yesterday cast a bronze drum using the traditional handcraft method right in Hanoi on the sidelines of a seminar on Bronze Drums in Vietnamese culture at 36 Ly Thai To Street.
It took about one hour to cast the 15kg drum. However, to prepare for the casting, it took Thanh Hoa artists two months to prepare the earthen mold need.
With the casting finished, it will now take several days to polish the drum.
When completed, the drum will have bright patterns and resonating sound.
That such a bronze drum could be made in the 21st century is evidence that the Thanh Hoa artists succeed in their efforts to research and revitalize the ancient Vietnamese art of making bronze drums, one of the oldest trade crafts of ancient Vietnamese.
