During the call, the two ministers highly valued the recent cooperation between the two countries. They agreed to further elevate bilateral ties across all fields, including politics, diplomacy, defense, security, economy, and people-to-people exchanges, making practical contributions to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (July 12, 1976 - 2026).

Both sides emphasized the importance of promoting delegation exchanges at all levels across the Party, State, and National Assembly channels. They also highlighted the need to effectively utilize bilateral cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Vietnam-Philippines Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, striving to soon raise the bilateral trade turnover to over USD 10 billion.

Discussing regional and international issues, the two ministers agreed that amidst current volatilities and challenges, ASEAN needs to maintain regular information exchange and coordinate responses. The association must demonstrate solidarity, its central role, resilience, and the capacity to resolve emerging issues and challenges.

Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam supports the Philippines in successfully assuming the 2026 ASEAN Chairmanship and its priorities under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.” He highly appreciated the Philippines’ leading role in hosting key ministerial meetings since early 2026. He also commended the Philippines’ efforts in guiding ASEAN’s responsible voice and common response to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, evidenced by the issuance of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Statement and the recent convening of the special virtual ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
