Agreeing with the IPU Secretary General, other delegates at the virtual conference themed “Parliamentary Partnership on Educational and Cultural Cooperation for Sustainable Development” (AIPA ECC), hosted by the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) on July 30, also spoke highly of Vietnam as AIPA Chair.

In his opening remarks, NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien affirmed that he hopes that the participants will discuss educational and cultural cooperation mechanisms to realize the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, contributing to preserving ASEAN cultural identities and building an ASEAN Community of prosperity and sustainable development.

On behalf of the UN Resident Coordinator for Vietnam, Kidong Park, Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam confirmed that the UN will support AIPA in implementing sustainable development goals.

On the occasion, the WHO representative in Vietnam highly valued Vietnam’s achievements in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and committed to backing the Vietnamese Government’s COVID-19 control efforts.

At the meeting, delegates clarified the role of the parliaments in building a legal corridor to develop distance and online education in the context of combating COVID-19. They also discussed building a legal corridor to preserve and connect cultural heritages in the region in close link with sustainable tourism development cooperation and promotion of education and cultural development resources to achieve sustainable development goals
