A bright example of international relations
Embarking on the new period of national construction and defense, Vietnam and Laos, following Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought in Vietnam and Marxism-Leninism and Kaysone Phomvihane’s thought in Laos, continue writing new pages in the history of their bilateral relations. The two nations are extremely proud as they are always faithful and like-minded comrades and friends who have stood side by side in building independent and self-reliant economy, integrating and moving towards socialism.

On the basis of promoting the spirit of independence, self-reliance, equal cooperation and mutual benefit and combining the special nature of the Vietnam-Laos relationship and international practices, the two sides have always given priority to supporting and creating favorable conditions for each other to develop for the prosperity of each country as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.
Over the past years, with efforts and high determination of leaders and people of the two countries, the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos has been developing fruitfully.
Talking with reporters of the People’s Army Newspaper, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung affirmed that Vietnam and Laos are now enjoying peace and independence, and the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries have continuously developed and obtained important results, proving that the relationship is unique. Apart from bilateral cooperation activities, the two countries have regularly cooperated and shown support to one another at sub-regional, regional and international forums, contributing to the common success of diplomacy sector and the improvement of each country’s position.

More especially, in the context that Vietnam and Laos were strongly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries gave both material and spiritual assistance to help each other overcome the consequences of the pandemic and recover their socio-economy. According to Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang, the support in difficult time is vital evidence for the sharing tradition of the two countries.
He added that achievements in different fields have greatly contributed to maintaining political stability, developing socio-economy, bringing practical benefits for the people of the two countries and diversifying the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos. Those positive outcomes have also helped enhance the role of the two parties and states, maintain peace, stability and cooperation for development in the world and further affirm that the Vietnam – Lao relationship is a bright example in the international relations.
A “red thread” throughout two countries’ development process
Looking back upon the history, we can be proud of the history of the establishment and development of the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos. It is the relationship which developed from a close neighboring tie to a special solidarity and was established by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong and cultivated by generations of leaders and people of the two countries.
The close relationship comes from the aspiration of the people of the two countries to be united and help each other fight common enemies, build an equal relationship, self-reliance, friendship and cooperation for mutual benefits.
It is also a comprehensive and sustainable relationship spanning all historical periods. The next stage of relationship is developed based on the previous one to bring the glorious victories of the two countries in the struggle for national independence in the past and the current national construction and socialism building cause.
Historical lessons of the exemplary Vietnam-Laos relationship will forever be a “red thread” throughout the development process of the Party, State and people of the two countries.
In the world with complicated developments and intertwined opportunities and challenges, the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos becomes more important than ever to both countries. Although time changes, the faithful relationship between the two nations will be carefully upheld by next generations and will forever remain intact.
The two parties, the two states and the two peoples are constantly determined to follow their forefathers' footsteps and uphold the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung said that the great and historically-significant achievements obtained over the past six decades of bilateral relations as well as more than 30 years conducting the “doi moi” (renewal) process in each country have created great material and spiritual conditions for the two countries to strengthen their bilateral comprehensive cooperation in the coming time.
“With the determination and efforts of both countries and the results achieved over the past time, I strongly believe that under the sound leadership of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam and Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos will continue to be consolidated and strongly develop. The two countries will stand side by side to move forward together to socialism,” said Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung.
