At the press conference introducing the festival

This year, Vietnam and Laos celebrate the 56th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962), and the 41st anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977).

In the renewal cause of each country, both Vietnam and Laos have gained great achievements of historic significance in socio-economy and external relations, contributing to consolidating their close relationship and to expanding their comprehensive cooperation.

Such a festival aims to popularize images of Vietnam in the renewal and its development, and strengthen the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

According to MIC’s Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong, it will be the festival of people in border provinces and the chance to boost information dissemination on external relations in border areas in order to raise awareness and responsibility of local authorities and people of firmly safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, maintaining peace and stability for national development and raising Vietnam’s position and prestige in the region and the world as a whole.

Leaders of the central- and local-level departments, organizations, entrepreneurs, people from all walks of life in Dien Bien, Northern Lao provinces and other Vietnamese localities sharing the borderline with Laos will participate in the festival.

The event is expected to include a wide range of artistic performances, exhibitions and fairs, and serve as the bridge connecting domestic enterprises with Dien Bien province to further boost the development of the province’s economy in the country’s renewal and international integration.
