Cambodia’s victory over Pol Pot genocidal regime marked in Hanoi
PANO - The Cambodia embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony on January 3 to mark the 42nd anniversary of the victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime (January 7, 1979, 2021).

42 years ago, with the support and asistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation victoriously overthrew the genocidal regime.
Present at the event were the Cambodian embassy staff, personnel from Cambodian representative offices in Vietnam, Cambodian students in Vietnam, and former Vietnamese volunteer troops and experts who were side by side with Cambodia troops and people in the fight against the genocidal Pol Pot regime.
At the ceremony, delegates highlighted the fruitful time-honored and sustainable relationship between the two neighboring countries. They also confirmed that the victory on January 7, 1979 over the genocidal Pol Pot regime was the manifestation of the two nations’ bright and wholehearted international solidarity.

They affirmed that the two countries have ceaselessly consolidated their solidarity, developed their traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation while respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and their legitimate interests for national development and prosperity.
In his speech, Cambodian ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth expressed deep thanks to the government, people, former volunteer troops and experts of Vietnam for their wholehearted assistance in helping the Cambodian people escape from the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime.
The Cambodian diplomat also confirmed that the victory on January 7, 1979 opened a new era in the history of Cambodia, ending the unjust Pol Pot-led war which went against the nation’s interests and destroyed the traditional friendship between the two countries and peoples.
