ASEAN improves disaster management capacity
The Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN and the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center) have launched the ASEAN Standards and Certification for Experts in Disaster Management (ASCEND) project.
With the aim of improving the capacity of regional experts in disaster management, the project will be carried out between 2020 and 2023 at a total cost of USD 3.35 million, financed by the ASEAN-RoK Cooperation Fund.
Speaking at the online launch, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (RoK) to ASEAN Lim Sung-nam expressed his hope that the disaster management system using RoK technology will contribute to turning ASEAN into one of the leading regions worldwide in the field by 2025.
ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi, for his part, hailed the RoK Government for its commitments to contributing to ASEAN-led efforts such as the ASEAN Response Fund for COVID-19 and the repatriation process in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
