This is the first time direct air routes to Con Dao  from Hanoi, Hai Phong and Vinh will be available. Previously, using ATR72 aircraft, only the Vietnam Air Service Company (VASCO) operated flights to this island district, departing from Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho city.

Bamboo Airways will operate two flights per day on the Hanoi - Con Dao route, one flight a day on the routes between Hai Phong and Con Dao and Vinh and Con Dao, starting on September 29, 2020. Tickets will be available starting September 10. The cheapest ticket for the Hanoi - Con Dao route costs around VND 1.6 million.

At the press conference, Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways Nguyen Ngoc Trong revealed that the airline will use six Embraer E195 planes for the flights to Con Dao. This kind of aircraft can accommodate 124 passengers and fly at a maximum speed of 871 km per hour and has a maximum range of 4,260 km. On average, it takes an Embraer E195 plane about 2 hours and 10 minutes to fly from Hanoi to Con Dao.

Last year, Con Dao island district welcomed nearly 400,000 tourists, a 37 percent increase against 2018.

After the implementation of COVID-19 preventive measures in the early months of this year, the frequency of flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao, Can Tho and Con Dao has increased.
